Elderly Companion ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Elderly Companion mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.

- Account Information: Display name, email address (if provided), user role (Senior or Family Member)
- Household Information: Invite codes for family sharing, household member relationships
- Authentication Data: Firebase anonymous authentication identifiers
1.2 Health and Medication Data
Our App collects health-related information to provide medication management services:
- Medication Information: Medication names, schedules, dosages, frequency
- Medication Records: Taken/skipped medication logs, timestamps
- Reminders: Daily routines, appointments, and other health-related reminders
1.3 Usage Data
- Activity Data: Last active timestamps, app usage patterns
- Voice Data: Voice commands for medication management (processed locally on device, not stored)
- Messages: Family messages sent through the app
1.4 Device Information
- Device type and operating system version
- App version and configuration settings
- Language preferences
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Provide App Functionality: Medication reminders, family member coordination, daily routine tracking
- Family Sharing: Enable family members to monitor senior medication adherence and activity
- Data Synchronization: Sync data across devices within the same household
- Subscription Management: Process in-app purchases, manage free trials and subscriptions
- Customer Support: Respond to inquiries and provide technical assistance
- App Improvement: Analyze usage patterns to improve features and user experience
- Security: Protect against unauthorized access and ensure data integrity
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Data Storage
- Local Storage: Medication schedules and records are stored locally on your device using SwiftData
- Cloud Storage: Household data, family member information, and synchronized medication data are stored in Google Firebase Cloud Firestore
- Encryption: Medication data shared with family members is encrypted using AES-256 encryption
3.2 Data Security Measures
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- End-to-end encryption for sensitive medication data
- Firebase Authentication with secure user sessions
- Regular security updates and vulnerability assessments
- Access controls and role-based permissions (Senior vs. Family Member)
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
4.1 Family Members
When you join a household as a Family Member or invite family members as a Senior, you explicitly authorize sharing of:
- Medication schedules and adherence records
- Daily activity status (last active timestamps)
- Messages sent through the app
4.2 Third-Party Service Providers
We use the following third-party services that may have access to your data:

5. Your Rights and Choices
5.1 Access and Control
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: View all your medication data and personal information within the app
- Correction: Edit or update your medication schedules, personal information, and settings
- Deletion: Delete individual medication records or your entire account
- Export: Request a copy of your data in a portable format
5.2 Family Sharing Control
- Seniors: Can remove family members from the household at any time
- Family Members: Can leave a household at any time
- Data Access: Family members only have access while actively part of the household
5.3 Subscription Management
- Cancel subscription anytime through iPhone Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions
- No charge during the 14-day free trial period
- Subscription data is managed by Apple and subject to Apple's privacy policy
6. Data Retention
- Active Accounts: Data is retained as long as your account is active
- Deleted Accounts: Personal and medication data is permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion
- Backup Data: Encrypted backups are deleted within 90 days of account deletion
- Legal Obligations: Some data may be retained longer if required by law (e.g., financial records for tax purposes)
7. Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us to request deletion.
8. International Data Transfers
Your data may be stored and processed in servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States where Google Firebase servers are located. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by:
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Displaying an in-app notification for material changes
- Requiring acceptance of the updated policy for continued use
Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know: Request disclosure of personal information collected
